The Faculty of Teacher Education and Alternative Education has a mandate to provide high-quality professional learning programmes, ranging from Certificate Level to M.Phil, which seek to improve the professionalism of teachers with trust, knowledge and comprehension, in order to become successful practitioners. The development of curricula and related curricular materials for Pre-Service and In-Service Teacher Education by National Colleges of Education and Teachers’ Centers is another responsibility assigned to the faculty. The faculty also concentrated on expanding educational opportunities, particularly for those who have missed the mainstream of formal education for different reasons.
To implement continuing teacher education programmes.
To improve the quality of services of teacher education institute by updating curricula and building capacities of the academic staff.
To enhance and strengthen the programmes for the children with special education needs to ensure inclusive education for all.
To strengthen learners’ competencies in foreign and classical languages and bilingual education in line with philosophical, literary, scientific and technological advancement.
To facilitate and support the production of electronic resources designed by all faculties.
To facilitate students to address their intellectual, personal, social educational and career challenges.
To provide opportunities for open learning for youth who are not attending mainstream schooling to prepare them for the world of work and develop life skills.
The Faculty of Teacher Education and Alternative Education’s primary focus is to provide development programs that nurture teachers as competent professional educators and transformational leaders. The faculty actively updates the course material to be relevant, and innovative, and imparts knowledge in a practical and interesting manner. The faculty provides a development opportunity pathway for teachers through its certificate level that leads to an M Phil qualification. Our team at this faculty is indeed privileged to serve in the capacity of knowledge enablers to the Teacher profession, a vital cog in building a country’s intellectual capacity.
