Director General's Message

It is a privilege to assume duties as the Director General of the National Institute of Education (NIE), the apex institution entrusted with shaping the future of general education in our country.

The NIE plays a vital role in curriculum development, teacher education, professional development, and educational research, contributing directly to national development. In an era of rapid global transformation, it is essential that our education system evolves to meet the demands of the 21st century while preserving the values and identity of our nation.

As we move forward, our focus will be on strengthening a student-centered and inclusive education system that promotes critical thinking, innovation, and lifelong learning. We are committed to enhancing the quality and relevance of education through evidence-based policy development, continuous teacher professional development, and the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.

Special emphasis will be placed on ensuring equitable access to quality education for all learners, while fostering skills required for a dynamic and competitive global environment. The NIE will continue to collaborate with national and international partners to bring global best practices into Sri Lanka’s education system.

With my background in economics and policy research, I strongly believe in data-driven decision-making and sustainable educational reforms. Together with all stakeholders, we will strive to further strengthen the NIE as a center of excellence in education.

I look forward to working collaboratively with educators, policymakers, and the wider community to build a future-ready generation for Sri Lanka.
