Director General's Message

The National Institute of Education (NIE) Sri Lanka, as the apex body in local education, strive with passion to give leadership in building the nation’s future generation that is fitted for the challenges of the ‘reset’ era and the digital age through education.

Partnering with the Ministry of Education and the National schools, NIE plays a pivoting role in upgrading teacher skills, teaching methods, and syllabi that support our country’s educational endeavors. Our teacher education programs play a key role in the preparation of teachers who are grounded in theory and strong in practice.

The importance of being aligned with the developments in the global educational landscape NIE Sri Lanka will transit with new educational reforms that will be implemented over the next five years. Through evidence-based research, data gathering, consultations, and in-depth discussions with all educational stakeholders the Institute is on the threshold of implementing the 2022-2026 Strategic Management Plan.

The implementation of it will see changes to the syllabus, Pedagogy, and assessment procedures that give emphasis to blended learning and digital literacy. The plan will ensure a reduction in regional disparity and inequality. The plan also roadmaps the transition of the Institute into a National University of Education (NUE) a nation’s first dedicated University for Education.
Much needs to be done for the successful implementation of this plan and I am confident my competent and dedicated staff will rise to the challenges and bring about the transformation of Sri Lanka’s education to be aligned with the global educational landscape that will proceed towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Thank you for your interest in NIE and I warmly welcome you to find out more about our team and our work at NIE Sri Lanka.
