What we do

The primary task of this department is to foster early learning skills in the young child enabling them easy transition to student life.
Enhancing basic life skills of young individuals who are capable and competent in facing challenges in the future leading to a harmonious society.
Developing quality primary education that aimed at the realization of the highest potential of each child at the primary stage in line with the achievement of national goals.

Responsibilities

  • Development of curricula for Early Childhood and Primary Education in Sri Lanka.
  • Preparation of Teacher Guides, Student Books and Other teaching-learning materials.
  • Strengthening the capacity of subject directors, In-service Advisors and teachers of Primary Education in 9 provinces in the country.
  • Conducting research related to Early Childhood and Primary Education to enhance the quality of education.

It is a great privilege to represent the department of Early Childhood Development and Primary Education as the Director and to serve my country to up lift the Early Childhood Development and Primary Education in Sri Lanka.

The department is responsible for, the development of curricular for Early Childhood and Primary Education in Sri Lanka. The preparation of Teacher Guides, Student Books and Other teaching learning materials. Strengthening the capacity of subject directors, In service Advisors and teachers of Primary Education in 9 provinces in the country and Conducting research related to the Early Childhood and Primary Education to enhance the quality of education.

As the present Director, my role consists of continuing the 50 years of professional reputation of my department as well as to lead 2023 primary education reforms to lay the foundation to develop an innovative, patriotic person who could successfully face the challenges of the 21st century world.
